The Wintergardens in Auckland are one of my favourite places to go. It has two large arched glass-houses fulled to the brim with tropical plants and orchids, and the most beautiful outdoor fernery which is framed by huge wooden beams. The beams used to have shade netting over them when I was a child, I think they took it down when the punga (fern trees) got tall enough to provide their own shade. You may notice on the marble statue of the two girls, that the nipple areas of the girls are whiter, this is because everyone who walks past touches them for good luck - they're shiny and smooth from years of rubbing..
