One Tree Hill was once topped by a huge ancient pine tree, which gave it a legendary profile. It was a huge landmark for Aucklanders, until some nob cut the tree down in protest about something or other (nobody even remembers what it was now). I live next door to the massive park that surrounds it, which is cool because I don't feel like I'm in the middle of the city when I'm strolling through paddocks of sheep, or groves of beautiful trees.
