We caught the highspeed train (it got up to 300km!) through wonderful connifer forests and farmland to Friedberg (near Frankfurt in Germany) to meet Gunther's cousin Bart and his family. Bart lives in a lovely modern townhouse with his wife Tini and their two little girls Juliana and Anna Bella. Tini is a fantastic cook, and while we were there she made a traditional pasta for us.

Friedberg is a very old town, and still has remains of fortifications visible amongst the buildings. They took us to Adolfsturm, where we climbed up the inside of a tower with spectacular views at the top.

We also visited Hessen Park - a tourist village made up of historic buildings which have been relocated to a lovely hilltop setting, and drove through the forests of the Upper Taunus to Feldberg mountain, where we ate icecream and enjoyed the views across the valley to little towns and villages nestled in the hills.
